The number of students is growing but the number of schools is not.
That was the concern with a coalition of parents tonight at a Bedford County
School Board meeting.
In the past couple of years the county has seen an average of three to
four hundred new students each year.
And as Jay Moore report, neither the school board nor the parents are happy
with the county's board of supervisors.

The kindergarten, first, and second grade enrollment is where most of the
growth is occuring.
In '93 the school board approved the building of a new school in the Forest
But when it asked the board of supervisors for funding last February the
supervisors said no.

The school board will go back to the supervisors and this time it'll have

For months, a Franklin County breeder's been under fire... accused of animal
She still hasn't faced those charges, but a judge decided that she's not
capable of taking care of her dogs and cats.

on... she can't even own a PET.
Last week, her hundred- or- so animals were removed from her Franklin County
home because of the weather.
Now, thanks to a judge's ruling, the Humane Society has been granted
permanent custody of the animals.
Green says she the victim of a conspiracy.

Green DID testify in her own defense and said that the animals had been well
taken care of.
About a half an hour into her testimony she got up and retrieved some
papers... all the while speaking on the record.
Shortly after that... Green whispered to her attorney... as if to tell her
which questions to ask.
Prosecution witnesses were a bit more formal... as they described the
conditions in which the animals were kept.

Despite the ruling, the Humane Society is not allowed to put any of the
animals up for adoption because Green has appealed the ruling.
She's scheduled to face animal neglect and cruelty charges in early

Danville police are investigating the city's second murder in less than two
Police say 19 year old Derrick Lavar Crawford died quickly from a gunshot
wound to the chest.
It happened around ten last night at an apartment on Ferry Road.
Crawford was from Pennsylvania but was living with a cousin while job
hunting in Danville.
Police say two men were seen running from the area, but they have not
Authorities are also investigating a murder from two weeks ago on Keen
They're searching for the person who shot and killed 40-year old Johnny
Alphonso Motley from Danville.
His body was discovered on Keen Street.
The O-J Simpson case is dragging into yet another week-
The jury was supposed to get the case today- but defense closing arguments
are still not over.
As Jennifer Sabih reports, Simpson's attorneys told the jury the evidence is

police departemt. He stressed that the defense will not be able to show in all

should have been blood drops on the walkway.

Last June- -the day before the disability check was to arrive from
Richmond- -Penny Stallins got a call.
Her cocaine shipment was in.
"Hallelujah, Jesus," she said to the police informant. But she would have
to wait another day- -for the check to arrive- -before she could buy the coke.
All this came out in court today, as the former gym teacher and golf pro
was sentenced to serve SIX MONTHS in jail.
It also came out today that she'd been using coke and helping others get it
for ten years- -meaning she was using the drug long before she quit teaching in
Judge George Honts ordered her to pay a 5-thousand dollar fine, and the
County confiscated her 1987 Pontiac, as well.
The man who abolished parole in Virginia and won longer sentences for
criminals has set a modern record.
George Allen has now granted more full pardons than any of his recent

Security systems and emergency pendants will allow battered and abused
