National guard troops are headed to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where a tornado
killed one person last night, and damaged 100 homes.

And in Tennessee, more than 200 homes and businesses were damaged by
twisters.
The town of Barfield, southeast of Nashville, was one of the hardest hit...
160 homes were destroyed there.
The storm scattered hail and tornadoes across 9 counties.
About 20 thousand people lost power.

The path of destruction tore the roofs off homes and stripped others to
their foundation.
State officials in Tennessee and Alabama spent saturday assessing the damage
caused by the storms.
Northern California which has not yet recovered from devastating New Year's
floods...once again is being hit by heavy rains.
The second pacific storm this week caused rivers that only recently receded
to overrun their banks.
It's enough the test the faith of anyone...rising water..has flooded fertile
farmland.
Homes spared from the first round of flooding are collapsing under their own
weight on the rainsoaked ground.
Homeowners who have not yet been affected by the rising water are making
sure they are protected.
Work crews filled sandbags so that residents could turn back the tide.

Work crews are also using sandbags to shore up levees weakened by storms
earlier earlier this year.
Highway 50 which was closed for 17 days after the New Years Storms....is
closed again.
It is the main thoroughfare between the Sacramento Valley and South Lake
Tahoe.
And what was not shutdown by mudslides fell victim to the high waters.
Flash flood warning are in effect though Sunday...the rain is expected to
let up by monday.

An unknown number of people are stranded on an ice floe in Canada.
Hundreds of people in Ontario were out fishing when the ice cracked, opening
a gap the length of a football field.
Helicopters were sent in.
They were able to lift at least 220 people and two dogs to safety.
But then the wind and snow kicked up.
The helicopters were grounded.
Police say there are no reports of anyone falling into the water.
Those still stranded probably can take shelter in heated fishing huts until
the copters can return.

A man claiming to have a van full of dynamite forced the evacuation of a Los
Angeles TV station and Paramount Studios this morning.

An unidentified man apparently parked the moving van on the Paramount lot
around 9 o'clock.
A sign on the van said it contained 5,000 pounds of dynamite.
The man reportedly demanded to speak with Attorney General Janet Reno, but
his motivations are unclear.
After a four and a half hour standoff, the man surrendered to police.
Authorities could not immediately confirm if any explosives were actually on
hand.

least in one respect, Page Moir and his 1997 Maroons can look to the past for
clues on how win.
5 players and assistant coach Kevin Martin were integral parts to the
1993-94 Hillairy Scott lead Maroons that went 26 and 2, and lost in it's first
NCAA tournament game.
But that loss might just have yielded countless wins in the future.

become the new head coach of the Saints.
