Teenage killer Tommy Helms will serve his time in an adult prison.
The 17-year-old was sentenced to life plus 23 years today, for the murder of Lavina Scales.
Helms confessed to shooting and killing the 15-year-old girl in 1995, along a roadside in the Bassett area.
The prosecution and defense agreed that Helms should start his sentence in a juvenile detention center.
But the judge ruled Helms should serve his entire sentence in the state prison system.

The judge ordered the camera turned off during the testimony of the under-age witness.

The Oakland Raiders named former Redskins assistant Joe Bugel their new head coach tonight.
The Oakland players lobbied for Bugel and so did his former boss Joe Gibbs.

Hollins head coach Karen Jenkins Harvey, the former Roanoke star was dead serious about this game.
But so was Suzanne Moore, who follows up last night's career high 25 point performance with this bomb from the corner.
Hollins' Amy Worley did everything she could to keep this game close, scoring 15 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.

Dattalo is ranked 11th in the nation. Last weekend he swept his matches against VMI and Virginia. With a 29 and 5 record, John is just 7 wins away from breaking the Tech single season win mark. ((:))
