15-year old Lavina Scales was shot eight times in the head.
Helms ultimately confessed to killing the young woman.
Before imposing punishment, the judge spoke about how Scales was robbed of the chance to graduate from school, marry and have children.
The comments brought tears to the eye's of Scales' father.

Former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe joined the Marine Corps Reserves today.
The 29-year old fighter will go through boot camp at Paris Island and then be assigned to a reserve unit in Washington, D.C.
Bowe's boxing career is on hold until after basic training.

So while the General Assembly debates the fate of "Carry Me Back To Old Virginia," the Governor's taking the matter into his own hands.
Allen's picked a new anthem to be played at the Southern Governor's Association meeting this fall at the Homestead.
