Jurors from O-J Simpson's criminal trial are under investigation for
possible jury tampering at his civil trial.
And a report today raises new questions about whether F-B-I lab problems
affected the Oklahoma City bombing case.

There is new information this afternoon about the F-B-I crime lab's
mishandling of evidence in some major federal cases.
Today's New York's Times details the lab's sloppiness in the Oklahoma City
The paper reports lab examiners shipped defendant Timothy McVeigh's jeans in
a brown paper sack instead of a sealed plastic bag.
And cocaine traces from McVeigh's car may have resulted from dirty testing
The U-S Deputy Attorney General is now responding to the allegations of

Meantime C-B-S news has learned prosecutors have a videotape apparently
showing McVeigh near the shop that rented the bomb truck.
A security camera in a McDonald's taped McVeigh just minutes before the
truck was rented.
Police say blood tests show that Evelyn Williams of Blacksburg HAD been
drinking when she struck and killed a Virginia Tech student on campus earlier
Williams' blood alcohol level registered below the legal limit,
But Tech police chief Mike Jones says he's sure a forensic formula to
calculate blood alcohol levels hours earlier will prove Williams was legally
Williams refused a breath test and field sobriety tests at the scene of the
accident on Southgate Drive.
Police had to get a warrant to draw her blood six hours AFTER the crash.
Jones says 20- year- old Daniel Kelly was walking on the edge of the road
when he was hit from behind.
State prison is where a Henry County teenager will spend his life for a
violent crime spree that ended in murder.

17- year- old Tommy Helms was sentenced yesterday to life plus 23-years for
a series of armed robberies and the murder of a teenage girl in the fall of
15- year- old Lavina Scales was shot eight times in the head.
Helms ultimately confessed to killing the young woman.
Before imposing punishment, the judge spoke about how Scales was robbed of
the chance to graduate from school, marry and have children.
The comments brought tears to the eyes of Scales' father.

The prosecution and defense agreed that Helms should start his sentence in
the juvenile detention center.
But the judge ruled that Helms will serve his sentence in state prison.
A Pittsylvania County man who shot and killed two people and seriously
wounded another will also spend his life in prison.
25- year- old Mark Anthony Carter signed a plea agreement yesterday to avoid
the death penalty.

He admitted to shooting and killing Sydney Sherell Hairston and Darrell
Womack last February.
Carter also pleaded guilty to shooting and stabbing a third victim, who
survived the attack.

Carter was sentenced to two life terms, plus 63- years.
At the Citadel, twenty-four women are in and one male is out.
The South Carolina military college has accepted 24 women for the fall
Meantime, one of the male cadets accused of hazing two of the school's first
female cadets has resigned.
Citadel officials say ten other male cadets are facing military action.
Hearings for them will be held next month.
Officials in Houston say they have no idea yet what caused a 150-foot
section of a shopping mall's wall to collapse yesterday.
It killed three women and injured seven others.
There had been fears that six more people were trapped in the rubble, but
authorities said this morning everyone missing has been located.

Virginia regulators have approved a rate increase for American Electric
The rates are already in effect.

Roanoke's rating has improved since the 19-80 census, but still remains

It will take more money than originally expected to build two new elementary
