A year and a half after high water caused heavy damage in the Garden City
neighborhood of Roanoke, some residents are preparing to head for higher
Today, Roanoke City Council approved a plan to buy homes in the flood
The neighborhood had flooded before, but heavy rain on June 28th 1995
caused unprecedented damage there.
With a combination of federal, state and local dollars, the city is now
moving to buy and demolish more than 40 buildings that are prone to flooding.

The woman died of a lethal injection the medical examiner says she could
not have given herself.
That death's been ruled a homicide.
A second body- of a 42 year old woman- was dropped off at the hospital this
morning. She also died of a lethal injection.
The American Bar Association says the death penalty is unfair.

Wythe County authorities have stopped about 40 pounds of pot from hitting
the streets of Richmond.
A sheriff's deputy pulled over a suspected drunk driver yesterday on

The driver and his passenger were en route from Texas to Richmond.
Both face state and federal drug and weapons charges.
This is the third van-load of illegal drugs Wythe County authorities have

A grand jury indicted 14 people in Clifton Forge and 3 in Covington.

For the first time in 10 years, Lynchburg has beaten Roanoke in ODAC
basketball. Last night the Hornets sent the Maroons to their 3rd straight
loss, all in the ODAC, winning a 105-93 shootout in the Hill City.
