If the state board of Transportation goes through with plans to demolish the
bridge, and NOT build a new one, five to 10 minutes will be added to the 40
minute commute to Roanoke.
Those extra minutes will be costly to commuters, as well as rescue
personnel.
A local contractor says it would take two million dollars to build a
replacement.
But residents worry the real cost could be a human life.

ground.
Today, Roanoke City Council approved a plan to buy homes in the flood

A sheriff's deputy pulled over a suspected drunk driver yesterday on
Interstate-81.
After a drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to the scent of marijuana, a
search of the van turned up the pot and an automatic handgun.
The driver and his passenger were en route from Texas to Richmond.
Both face state and federal drug and weapons charges.
This is the third van-load of illegal drugs Wythe County authorities have
intercepted in less than a year.

own southeast neighborhood.
Douglas Ray Letchford was indicted today in five or six arson cases... one
was just a shed. The rest of the buildings were houses, and at least one was
