It would pay for a skimmer to clean up the lake. Tonight we'll find out what
boaters and task force members think.
A fifty five car pile up in Denver stopped traffic on Interstate 25 and
sent seven people to the hospital.
It was ALSO a mess- tanker trucks spilled molasses and fuel on the

The problems surrounding the Yokohama Tire plant in Salem have been well
documented in the past year.
From losing its biggest customer to suffering through one hundred layoffs,
current workers have enough to worry about.
But now comes word that the company's entire future hinges on the next two

((The 900- or- so factory workers were not invited to a close door meeting
at the Yokohama Tire plant a few weeks ago.
But News- 7 obtained a transcript of the speech by (yah-SOO-oh) Yasuo
Tominaga given to plant managers and supervisors.
It reads... "If Yokohama Tire fails to return to the black ink within 2
years, Yokohama Rubber will be forced from supporting the tire operation."
It continues... "If such a situation comes true, all employees are out of a
So, how far in debt is Yokohama Tire?
Try 100- millions dollars.
That's more than 22- percent of all of the money pumped into the U-S market.
A spokesperson from Yokohama's California offices says that workers need to
ban together to make this 2- year deadline work.
But Tominaga is quoted in the transcript as saying "I am afraid probably
this plan will be short of the target by my business experience."

Workers at General Electric in Salem will head back to the job.
The company issued a back to work order for all employees laid off last
month. They will return Monday.
More than 180 employees were laid off because of a slow work schedule.
Some of those workers returned after only one week off the job.
Officials say the rest are coming back because the work-load increase seems
to be happening earlier this year.
Would people pay to boat on Smith Mountain Lake?
That was just one question brought up tonight in Franklin County.
A task force met with the public to discuss ways of removing debris and
trash from the lake.
A boat- user fee was one idea.

The cost of a skimmer is more than 4- hundred and 30 thousand dollars and
the day to day operation would be more than 250 thousand annually.
It would be similar to a skimmer that American Electric Power uses on the

surrounding localities and the boat user fee could provide close to 250
thousand dollars in revenue.

Boyd Wade and some of his co- workers in Rockbridge County are in some hot
water with the I-R-S, which has fined them upwards of 15- hundred dollars, and
in some cases, put liens on their cars and homes.
Last year they filed amended tax returns, saying they were led to believe
the federal government can't tax their wages.

They say they were taught this by Randall Breeden of neighboring Bedford
Breeden, who refused an on camera interview, admits he agreed to "educate"
these people for 150- dollars and 20- percent of anything the I-R-S returned
them, but he didn't do anything else.

The I-R-S won't confirm or deny it's investigating this situation.
But if it were, Burks, Wade and perhaps dozens of others would be classified

never used the technique he teaches on HIS OWN taxes.
His reach apparently stretches well beyond Rockbridge County.
Richard Cary says Breeden convinced two co- workers in the Roanoke Valley to

It depends on who's attorneys jurors believe.

((Before he was accused of murder, O.J. Simpson was busy cashing in on his
reputation as a hall of fame football player.
He represented Hertz in TV commercials... was busy as a sports commentator...
and later began getting more roles in movies.
But now, Simpson's lawyers say his earning power is finished, and after being
slapped with 8.5-million dollars in compensatory damages for the death of Ron
Goldman, defense attorney Robert Baker told the jury Simpson is actually more
than 9-million dollars in the hole. Baker said because of all the money he
owes his lawyers and his mortgage company, his only assets are his home and
But plaintiff attorney Peter Gelblum painted a much different picture. He
called an accountant to the stand who testified Simpson is actually worth
15.7-million dollars. But he conceded simpson owes almost 3-million in costs
related to his two trials and his child custody fight.
The plaintiffs also called to the stand Mark Roesler, head of the nation's top
celebrity marketing firm, who believes Simpson can earn up to 3-million
dollars a year off his name and likeness.

The Carroll County board of supervisors is making its feelings known in
Richmond about liquor by the drink legislation.
A bill that would allow the Olde Mill Golf Resort to sell mixed drinks in
it's restaurant has already passed the House.
Olde Mill's manager says it's a matter of meeting customer demand, and
competing with resorts in nearby counties.
