What would the City of Salem do without Yokohama Tire?
What'll Virginia do without a Black Congressional District?
What would you do if you got a set of artificial nails and they destroyed

The president of Yokohama Tire has made it clear--- unless the company can
erase its red ink within the next 2 years, everyone at Yokohama's Salem plant
will be out of a job.
That poses a potentially disastrous situation for more than 900 workers.
But it could also mean big problems for the city itself.

Another 46 workers at the Rubatex plant in Bedford have been laid off,
bringing the three- week total to 140.
Rubatex says the layoffs are only temporary, and the employees should be
hired back in a few weeks when business orders pick up again.
More than 15 percent of the plant's entire workforce has been affected, all
of them hourly employees.
Just six months ago, union members approved a new contract that left some
senior employees vulnerable to layoffs.
The company had threatened to close part of the Bedford plant if the
contract wasn't accepted.
