(( Gibbs and many other prominent members of the NASCAR community joined
forces just hours before the qualifying races at Daytona to express their
concern for Hendrick and announce an all out effort to increase the number of
registered donors in the national marrow donors program.
((DR. JERRY PUNCH/PHYSICIAN & ANNOUNCER:))
The cause is especially close to Jeff Gordon's crew chief Ray Evernham,
who'se son was diagnosed with leukemia in July of 1991 when he was one year
old.
((RAY EVERNHAM/DUPONT CHEVY CREW CHIEF:))
Hendrick is currently undergoing chemotherapy but will likely need a marrow
transplant, himself. Blood tests already indicate he does not have a match
within his family, or with the 2.3 million donors who are already registered.))
