A man opened fire on the observation deck of New York's Empire State
Building late this afternoon.
One person was killed and six others were wounded.
The gunman shot himself in the head, but survived.
Witnesses say dozens of tourists made a mad dash to the stairway and
Seven people were injured after the shooting, including some who were
Emergency officials say one victim died at a hospital, and that
one of the shooting victims was a child.

Charges are being dropped against the man accused of abducting his
ex-girlfriend from a Roanoke apartment Thursday.
The Commonwealth's attorney today agreed to drop the charges against Robert
Rebecca Lee Hicks showed up at a friend's house this morning and told police
she was never kidnapped.
Several police teams spent yesterday searching for Hickson on the Bradshaw
Road area of Montgomery County.
Hickson's mother talked with her and says she was hungry but in good health.

Hickson says Hicks told her she was hit in the face as she tried to help her
ex-boyfriend during a fight in Roanoke Thursday night.
It was the same fight that led to the abduction charges.
Hickson still has not been found.
The Roanoke County police are investigating their second homicide of the
Police say 56-year-old Paskel Tinsley Junior allegedly shot 37-year-old Rick
Knobel(KA-nobel) during an early morning argument.
The shooting happened around four this morning in Tinsley's Bent Mountain
Knobel died at the scene.
Tinsley's wife was home at the time of the incident, but police say she was
Tinsley is in the Roanoke County Jail without bond.
He is charged with first degree murder.
Fire destroyed a home in Bedford County this evening.
Flames broke out around 6 o'clock at a house on Taylor's Mountain.
Fire officials Randy Carter's house on Cool Springs Road is a total loss.
Investigators aren't sure how the fire started.
They say the investigation is continuing.

Another investigation has ruled out foul play in the death of White House
aide Vincent Foster.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Whitewater independent counsel Kenneth
star has concluded Foster's death was a suicide.
Shortly after Foster's death in 1993, some Clinton Administration opponents
accused the White House of covering up Foster's murder.
Starr's report says there was no murder, and no cover-up.
Vandals have desecrated Abraham Lincoln's grave.
Staff members at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois found swastikas
and obscenities spray painted on the grave this morning.
The vandals also painted an observation deck at the tomb.

The South Boston Police Department has a new weapon in the war against
The department recently bought three video cameras for the officers to use
in their cars.
They've been using the cameras for a while to get accustomed to them before
receiving official training about a week ago.
The classroom training included officers from neighboring jurisdictions.
Police Chief Jim Hall believes the cameras will protect the officer as well
as the public.

Roanoke Electric Steel remains positive about its future direction, despite
a 34- percent drop in its first quarter earnings.
The company told shareholders at its annual meeting that an improving market
for its products and greater productivity will help the company's bottom line

The seven month lamb was grown from genes taken from a six-year-old ewe.
Researchers say she's an exact genetic copy of the donor.
