A 43-year old man is killed driving along Interstate 81 in Ironto.
The man was heading North when he lost control of his car- It then slid
across traffic and into the median. It happened at about five tonight.
The man's name has not been released.

One man is dead tonight, after his car ran into a guardrail on Interstate
State Troopers say the man was traveling at the speed limit in the right
lane when he lost control of his car and slid into the median.

The car slid sideways for more than 100 yards until the driver's side of the
car rammed into the end of the guardrail.
Trooper Rose says no other vehicles were involved.
The man's name is not being released yet.
Roanoke schoolteachers will get raises next year.
The City School Board approved Superintendent Wayne Harris's 86 million
dollar budget tonight.
The budget gives teachers an average raise of 4 and a quarter percent.
But they were hoping for more.

A Roanoke company with 75 employees may close.
When asked about a possible shutdown, a spokesman for Shorewood Packaging
said "it's something we're looking at".
But Howard Liebman, reached at the company's New York headquarters, declined
to comment more.
Shorewood makes covers for compact disks.
It has a distribution facility in the Statesman Industrial Park off route
460. That's in northeast Roanoke.
The company is publicly traded on NASDAQ.
Financial reports on Shorewood have high praise for the company.
Health officials in Vinton and Bedford County say they're making progress
against an outbreak of dysentery.
As Steve Smallshaw reports the illness has a Vinton daycare center teaching
some different kind of lessons.

A clerk who handled criminal cases in Roanoke Circuit Court has become a
criminal defendant herself.
(Tier-ney) Tierney Anita Monroe was charged in a two-count indictment with
possession of cocaine and marijuana.
The charges are the result of a drug raid three weeks ago in search of
Monroe's son, Shannon Brown.
An informant had told police he bought drugs in the house on Chapman Avenue.
Inside police report they found drugs and drug paraphernalia, along with a
Monroe has been put on notice that she'll be suspended... and could be
The 35-year old deputy clerk is still on the city payroll, while she
considers whether to answer the charges in writing before her case comes up for
The board that runs a Covington battered women's shelter is investigating
accusations that two of it's past members sexually harassed a former director,
and a resident of the shelter.

it is true.
An attorney for the shelter board told us the board is now conducting an
internal investigation into the accusations.
