He says their town will look better in two years than it did before the storm.
The President toured the hardest hit areas- talking with resident and
assessing the damage.

The weekend storms destroyed much of the business area in Arkadelphia-
along with hundreds of homes.
Federal officials say they should have a damage estimate by week's end.

The flood water is rising and people are moving out in parts of Ohio and

The national guard is moving in to help the thousands left homeless by
She's seen countless criminal cases come through the courts, now Tierney
(Tyranny) Anita Monroe is a defendant herself.
The 35-year old deputy clerk of court has been indicted for possession of
cocaine and marijuana.
Her SON, Shannon Brown, is accused of running a crack house out of their
home on Chapman Avenue.
Police searched the house three weeks ago and seized unspecified amounts of
drugs, drug paraphernalia, a hand gun and two types of ammunition.
Monroe was suspended from her job in the clerk's office, pending an
There's no definite word yet, but a company located in Roanoke's Statesman
Industrial Park MAY close.
Shorewood Packaging makes covers for compact disks.
It has a distribution facility here that employs about 75 people.
When asked about a possible shutdown, a spokesman for Shorewood Packaging
said "it's something we're looking at".
But Howard Liebman, reached at the company's New York headquarters, declined
to comment further.
Financial reports on Shorewood have high praise for the company.
It's publicly traded on NASDAQ.
The Instructor is apparently to blame for the plane crash that killed 7 year

That's the conclusion of the National Transportation Safety board.
It says instructor Joe Reid showed poor judgement allowing the plane to take
off overweight and in bad weather.

The crash in Cheyenne, Wyoming killed all three aboard including the

A Clifton Forge nursing home has passed a state inspection, and will once
again be able to take Medicaid patients.

Shenandoah Manor lost its Medicaid certification last year, and had to move
several residents to other homes.
Just last week, the state health department completed a three-day site
This morning, Shenandoah Manor learned that it's Medicaid eligibility will
be restored in about three weeks.
Interstate 77 has its share of twists and turns through southwest Virginia.
But the portion through Bland County is gaining some national recognition.
The 20- mile stretch of highway is listed as one of the country's 10 safest
interstates by U- S- A- A Magazine.
U- S- A- A writes auto insurance policies.
Two other Virginia interstates also made the list; I- 66 in Arlington
County, and I-64 in Richmond County.
The ranking includes interstates with less than one fatal accident for every
100- million miles driven on them.
The commercial growth at Smith Mountain Lake continues to expand.
The latest endeavor... a water amusement park on Route 122 in the Westlake
Corner section of Franklin County.
The park... which will be called "Waterworld" will feature a go cart track,
water slides, and a wave pool.

Authorities at a Vinton daycare center and at a Bedford County elementary
school are dealing with at least 14 cases of dysentery, reported in
school-children and parents there.
At least two children from Stewartsville Elementary School were briefly
hospitalized for their symptoms, which include vomiting, high fever, stomach
cramps and diarrhea.
Authorities say outbreaks like this are rare, but things could have been

The school's bathrooms are being scrubbed several times a day, and communal
school supplies like crayons and magic markers have been disinfected and
assigned to specific children.
The students also have been educated in proper handwashing techniques, and
monitors make sure they clean up after using the bathroom.
Authorities say they aren't sure where the outbreak started.
Earlier research found that pregnant women who suffer from morning sickness
were less likely to miscarry-- suggesting that if you were nausea-free you had
a higher risk of an unsuccessful pregnancy.
Now, a new study out of Pennsylvania State University says those reports are
203 pregnant women between the ages of 18 and 47 were studied-- and
researchers found the younger they were, the more likely they were to have
morning sickness, and they also found that as women get older, they have a
higher risk of unsuccessful pregnancy.
Consequently, when researchers put it all together they said the absence of
morning sickness does not indicate a greater likelihood of miscarrying.
Some new research may help prevent cystic fibrosis in newborns.
Researchers say gene therapy on unborn mice has proved successful in
preventing the disease.
Other scientists warn it's too early to draw any conclusions for what the
research might mean to humans.
There are all sorts of infant sleep aids on the market these days.
Maybe you've heard of the crib-side tape player that plays lullabies, or a
tape that plays a hair dryer, washing machine and vacuum cleaner sounds--
there's even a teddy bear that makes noises like the inside of the womb.

In the first six to 12 weeks,

New Orleans is known for it's great food-- but, that's what may be
contributing to its newest distinction.
It is THE city with the highest percentage of overweight adults.
A new study ranks the 33 largest metropolitan areas in this country by
their percentage of LARGE residents.
To make the comparison, they looked at Body Mass Index-- the scientific
measurement of obesity, and here are the top five.
Again, New Orleans, came in number one...with more than 37-percent of its
residents carrying excess weight.
Norfolk makes the list at number two--
Followed by San Antonio, Texas-- Kansas City, and Cleveland, Ohio.
