The center is just feet away from the Hardy Volunteer fire department- which
suffered minor damage.
Volunteers were not in the firehouse though when the center caught fire.
When firefighters arrived, they pulled the trucks out of the fire
department, and hosed down the building.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Stormy weather pushed the boat to the coast- running it aground.
The Icelandic Coast guard used helicopters to rescue 10 crewmen stranded
from that boat.
But that wasn't all that kept rescuers busy.
Bad weather caught two other fishing boats.
The Coast Guard rescued 39 people in all. No one was killed.

new head football coach today.
Johnson has been an assistant coach at PH since 1986, and his indoor and

The Washington Redskins have given general manager Charley Casserly a
contract extension.

year deal.
Casserly has served as general manager of the Redskins for eight
seasons and the team has had three playoff appearances and a
Super Bowl championship in that span.

After playing their first 11 games of the year on the road down south, the
Virginia Tech baseball team finally stepped on its home diamond yesterday at
English Field as it entertained the Campbell Camels.

The school made some improvements to the facilities over the winter, and Tech
couldn't have had a nicer day to unveil them.
The Hokies fell behind 3-to-nothing before their bats came alive in the
second. Barry Gouch gets robbed of a hit on this diving catch by the Campbell
right fielder in the gravel.
But that would wake up the Hokies.
With Chad Foutz on first, Chris Turbeville nails a shot over the left field
wall and nearly hits the road grader. It's a two run homer to make it 3-to-2
Camels.

In the fourth, Campbell would answer with Scott Jackson hitting a triple to

Johnson throws harder than virtually anyone in the Big leagues.
Unfortunately, one of his fast balls hits J.T. Snow in the left eye.
Snow suffered a cut eye lid but never lost consciousness. Results of his CAT
scan won't be known until later today, but he should be OK.
