((For the second time in as many weeks, an armed gunman turned a bank into a killing field. Just after ten o'clock in the morning, a man rambling and shouting religious passages opened fire at the Comerica Bank branch on Detroit's east side. ISIAH MCKINNON/DETROIT POLICE CHIEF: IT APPEARS AS IF WE HAVE A PERSON WHO WALKED IN TO KILL. Charlene Macdonald was inside the bank with her children and sister to deposit a check. CHARLENE MACDONALD/WITNESS He said lay down, and so we laid down. I laid down on top of my kids and when he went over to kill the other guy--he said he'll be back. And he came back and before he got to me he shot somebody else. Police say the gunman's trail of death began a few blocks from the bank when he shot a man in the face. The injured man, a police department applicant who was out walking his dog, is expected to survive. Authorities say the gunman then hijacked a car and drove to the bank. THOMAS FISHER/VP COMERICA BANK: I'VE BEEN IN THIS BUSINESS FOR 25 YEARS AND I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE. After killing two people in the bank, the gunman walked out taking a hostage with him. He took the hostage to a nearby alley where he killed him. The gunman was then brought down by police bullets. It's the second time in nearly
two weeks---that a shootout has taken place in broad daylight in a major,

American city. On February 28, two men died and sixteen police officers were injured in a botched robbery at a Bank of America branch in Los Angeles.))
