An arson suspect with a link to Salem is arrested as he gets off an International flight this afternoon.

(Ah-mahd Thee-ahb) Ahmad Thiab was taken into custody as he arrived at Dulles Airport in Northern Virginia- -at the end of a flight from London.
Thiab is a joint Canadian-Iraqi citizen.

Three years ago the nightclub he co-owned in Salem burned to the ground.
A federal indictment returned last week in Roanoke charges that (Thee-ahb) Thiab hired five members of the (ABBOTT) Abed "crime family" to torch the place.

It's a project between researchers, 4-H'ers and school students- It could revive the endangered American chestnut tree.

The trees made up a quarter of the Appalachian forests until a blight wiped them out in the early 1900's.
Students at Narrows Middle School are among others in Virginia and 16 other states who are planting seeds which may have some resistance to the fungus.

Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Carol Alfano, who was informed yesterday that her contract would not be renewed says she may get out of coaching all together now and pursue administration.
This afternoon she told us her 19 years of service just weren't enough to save her job.

Redskins General Manager Charley Casserly has been the driving force to get instant replay reinstated in the NFL for the first time since 1991.
Yesterday he needed 22 more of the owners to vote in favor of the move to have the measure pass.
It failed. Only 20 voted yes and 10 owners, including the Cowboys Jerry Jones voted in down. 7 nays are enough for defeat.
