in the arson conspiracy outlined by federal prosecutors last week.
This afternoon he became the first one to be released on bond.

Rescue crews spent the day searching to no avail for the body of a man
believed to have jumped off the Peppers Ferry bridge in Fairlawn yesterday.
The weather has worked against the team, preventing a state police
helicopter from joining the search.
And cold temperatures and dangerous currents kept divers out of the water
for a second day.
Authorities believe the victim is an elderly Pulaski man, whose car was
parked on the bridge.
President Clinton says he's feeling great tonight, hours after surgery to
repair a torn tendon in his knee.
He remained conscious throughout the procedure at Bethesda Naval Hospital--
with a regional anesthetic for the pain.

Roanoke firefighters are opposing the purchase of two new fire trucks,
known as "Quints."
And today, they took their fight against the proposal to city

They're trying to enlist residents in their fight against a proposal they
say is a threat to public safety.

Fire officials say they're more versatile than current equipment, but the
Roanoke Fire Fighters Association says the proposal is a step toward downsizing

The U.S. suspended the evacuation of its citizens today after Albanian

The administration news releases call 1995 and 1996 the second and third
strongest years ever for job creation.
Now we're back to the projected numbers.
Because if you go back to the Virginia employment Commission for ACTUAL job
growth, take a look at the mid- 1980's, under then- Governors Chuck Robb and
Virginia hit an all-time high in 1984 with 126- thousand new jobs created in
Compare that to the mid-90's, with Virginia hitting its decade peak in 1994,
with just 85- thousand new jobs... right after Governor Allen took office.
Actual job growth has declined during Allen's term.

The Botetourt County School Board has had its share of controversy over the
past 12 months.
Last year's budget was not fully approved by the Board of Supervisors,
Bus drivers almost walked off the job and a football coach was jailed.
Now there's a group upset over the name of a middle school.
An organization called the "New Countywide League" says there isn't any
outlet for African American history in Botetourt County... other than the
current William Clark Middle School.
Those members say they want THAT name removed... and replaced with Central
That's what the school was called in the 1960's, before segregation.
The New Countywide League is hoping to get support from all Botetourt County
residents, not just African Americans.

The school board is expected to vote on the proposed name-change at next
A new state park apparently is in the works for Amherst County.
After a meeting today between state and local officials in Richmond, the
state agreed to buy 60 acres of riverfront property and donate it to Amherst
The land will then be cleaned up and transformed into a state park, complete
with a boat ramp and access to the Blackwater Creek trail system.

establish Oscar Micheaux as an African American role model--
Depending on who you ask, Micheaux made between 30 and 40 films between
1918 and 1948.
The First Annual African American Film Festival will be held Sunday, at
