A six-year old Lynchburg boy is dead after his five-year old brother
accidentally shot him.

It happened at the Greenfield Apartments around 11:30 yesterday morning.
Police say the two boys apparently were playing with a .22 caliber pistol
when it went off, striking the older boy in the upper body.
He died about seven hours later at Lynchburg General Hospital.

approved the controversial purchase of two new fire trucks.

to buy two quints, vehicles that combine the functions of a pumper and an
aerial ladder truck.
The Roanoke Fire Fighters Association has argued the trucks are part of a

A Montgomery County judge has acquitted a Virginia Tech football player
charged in the assault of a track athlete last fall.

Angelo Harrison was one of seven football players indicted after the brawl
last August.
He was the only one charged with a felony for allegedly striking Hilliard
Summner with a cane, and breaking Summner's collarbone.
Summner was the only one to testify Harrison dealt the blow.
Several other witnesses said they remember seeing Harrison at the scene,
although they didn't recall him holding a cane.
One of Harrison's teammates Tyron Edmond also charged in the incident,
admitted stealing the cane from Summner's friend and breaking it on the ground.
The judge said although "it was clear a group of hooligans viciously
attacked" Summner, the evidence did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt
Harrison was involved.

property issue and was apparently threatening to set himself on fire.
According to the Federal Probation office, the Wythe County man was on
probation several years ago.
His former probation officer was able to talk him into unlocking the chain

Officials say the man never threatened to harm anyone but himself.
He was not arrested and the U.S. attorney's office says no charges have
been referred to their office.
