The government plans to appeal today's decision, but Abbott's friends and

Rufus Hicks was severely beaten on Speedway property in 1991. He died two
Corner Store Owner Danny Kirk says Tawalbeh thought Hicks was his son and
says it was all part of the attempt to run Kirk out of business.
Tawalbeh's ex-girlfriend went to Magistrate's court, insisting Fahad
Tawalbeh is not a violent person.

A Blacksburg woman who's car struck and killed a Virginia Tech student is
found guilty of drunk driving.
The judge also moved felony charges of involuntary manslaughter onto a grand

Evelyn Williams hit them from behind.
Kelly was killed on impact.
A Tech police officer testified Williams slipped up in several field

It registered point-oh-four, well below the legal limit of point-oh-eight.
But a state toxicologist used a measured rate to estimate blood alcohol
level at the time of the accident.

Word out of Washington this evening should ease fears about potential job
losses in Roanoke as a result of Norfolk Southern's purchase of Conrail's

He shot and killed his neighbor last year, and now a Campbell County teen
will most likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
Doctors said 17-year old Lewis "Trey" Mize was suffering from a psychotic
disorder when he murdered 19-year old Roger Vassar Junior in January, 1996.
But a judge today called it a "cold and calculated assassination" and
sentenced Mize to 56 years in prison.

started their annual reading competition with a NASCAR theme, they expected the
