A million and a half Americans have a heart attack every year.

Most are aggressively treated with cardiac catheterization, angioplasty or
coronary bypass surgery to open clogged arteries.
But new research challenges the wisdom of those procedures in certain
types of heart attacks.
Studying 920 patients at V-A hospitals, Dr. William Boden found people
treated more conservatively with drug therapies--and a watchful waiting
approach were 34-percent less likely to die in the long term.
The difference in mortality rate in the first few days after a heart
attack was almost shocking.
