Legally, todays announcement could be the stake thru the heart of big

MIKE MOORE/MISSISSIPPI ATTORNEY GENERAL: AND I THINK THIS WILL BRING THE
TOBACCO COMPANIES TO THEIR KNEES.
Heres the deal: To settle a lawsuit Ligget, the smallest American tobacco
company, will admit tobacco is addictive, admit that all the tobacco companies
market cigarettes to children..and in an deal finalized just this afternoon,
Ligget shipped to judges in 22 states documents that are tobacco's crown
jewels...internal notes on what the companies knew about nicotine and addiction
and when.
MOORE: THOSE PARTICULAR DOCUMENTS, PROBABLY 25 TO 30 DOCUMENTS, WILL BE THE
MOST INCRIMINATING DOCUMENTS EVER IN THE HISTORY OF TOBACCO LITIGATION
THESE ARE DOCUMENTS WE SEE THAT WE WERE NEVER SUPPOSED TO FIND OUT ABOUT.
Today Phillip Morris and 3 other companies got a North Carolina court to
temporarily block the release of the documents, with the companies claiming the
"materials (are) covered by attorney client privilege."
However the 22 state attorneys general who signed todays deal said that
order wont matter.
MOORE: WE HAVE A SAYING DOWN IN MISSISSIPPI. THAT DOG WON'T HUNT. (4) I DON'T
BELIEVE OUR JUDGE IN MISSISSIPPI IS GOING TO CARE TOO MUCH ABOUT WHAT A JUDGE
IN NORTH CAROLINA HAD TO SAY ABOUT DOCUMENTS.
It means that damaging document could reach juries in all the states suing
big tobacco for billions in the medicaid costs of treating smoker.
