A major tobacco company is expected to publicly acknowledge today that
cigarettes are addictive and cause cancer.
It's all part of a settlement reached with 22 states suing the tobacco

A judge found a Blacksburg woman guilty of drunk driving.

The judge also moved felony charges of involuntary manslaughter onto a grand

A Tech police officer testified Williams slipped up in several field

But a state toxicologist used a measured rate to estimate blood alcohol
level at the time of the accident.

A Montgomery County grand jury will now consider whether Williams should

A Campbell County teen who shot and killed his neighbor will spend most of
his life behind bars.
Doctors said 17- year- old Lewis "Trey" Mize was suffering from a psychotic
disorder when he murdered 19- year- old Roger Vassar Junior in January, 19-96.
But a judge yesterday called it a "cold and calculated assassination" and
sentenced Mize to 56 years in prison.

Sheriff deputies and wildlife officers first tried to shoot the tiger with

Authorities charged 22- year- old Jaquan (Juh kwan) Anderson Ross with first
degree murder and illegal use of a firearm.
Sheriff's deputies have also identified the man Ross is accused of killing.
He is 27- year- old Carlton Alfonzo Flash.
Authorities found Flash's body in the road earlier this week. He had been
shot several times.
Norfolk Southern is easing some fears that its purchase of Conrail's assets
could lead to lost jobs in Roanoke.
Some have worried that hundreds of jobs at N-S's East End shops are at risk,
because Conrail has a similar facility in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Sixth District Congressman Bob Goodlatte met with Norfolk Southern's Chief
Executive David Goode yesterday.
Goode says he believes N-S WILL get the Altoona shops.

((It doesn't take long to figure out that Lee Owens is an animal lover.
But apparently a couple of cats and a dog weren't enough.
When she found out former breeder Valery Green neglected more than 100
animals in Franklin County, Owens opened up her house and her heart.
She volunteered to be a foster owner to a few of the MISTREATED cats.... at
least until the Humane Society could put them up for adoption... or sell them.
