Along with that video tape, the National Transportation Safety Board also
released a 300 page public docket on the crash.
On December 22nd, the D-C-8 cargo plane was TAKEN on a test run.
It took off from Greensboro, North Carolina and was headed to Ohio.
Problems started just minutes into the flight. After a half-hour in the
air, SUPER=03-Giles Co./December 1996;
it slammed head-on into East River Mountain near Narrows... killing all six
people on board.
The docket contains a detailed summary of the flight as well as the
conversation between the pilot and the flight tower.
But at this point, the NTSB has NOT released the cause of the crash.
A company known nationwide, is creating hundreds of new jobs in Pittsylvania
Aris Isotoner is a leading manufacturer of gloves and slippers.
It's moving into the East Bowles Distribution center on Route-29.
The company plans to initially employ 100-people at the Pittsylvania County
During peak season an additional 400-people will be needed.

Two Michigan girls may have been molested before they were found yesterday

At a bond hearing today, investigators said one of the kidnapping suspects
molested the six-year old up to three times.
They say he may have attacked the nine-year old too.
A Daytona Beach police officer testified today that six year old Jessica
Hainer told him suspect Ronald Stafford molested her.
The officer says doctors also found evidence of abuse.
An FBI agent testified Stafford told him he kidnapped the children because
he was worried about their welfare while in their father's custody.
Stafford used to babysit the girls.
Martinsville authorities are breathing a sigh of relief now that an
escapee's been captured.
Roanoke County police caught up with Issac Swanson over the weekend, and
arrested him on a charge of receiving stolen property.
Officials say Swanson was incarcerated under a false name.
But once Martinsville police identified him, Swanson was served warrants
for escape and assault.
Swanson attacked a deputy before escaping on March second.
The Reverend Jerry Falwell is calling on Christians across the country to
boycott sponsors of the A-B-C television show "Ellen".
Next month, the show's title character, played by comedienne Ellen
DeGeneres, will announce she is a lesbian.
The Lynchburg minister says its reprehensible for the network to portray
homosexuality as an acceptable alternative lifestyle.

The Joe Camel ads are again under attack- and may now spark a lawsuit.
The Federal Trade Commission says R-J Reynolds Tobacco company uses the
cartoon character to unfairly target children.
In 1994, the F-T-C decided NOT to recommend an unfair advertising case
against R-J Reynolds.
But now, the Commission says it has NEW evidence and is recommending a
lawsuit against the company.
R.J. Reynolds denies that the Joe Camel character is designed to appeal to
The U.S. Government is fielding questions about security on the information
Sixth District Congressman Bob Goodlatte says his Safe Act is the answer.
This proposed legislation uses a system of scrambling computer messages into
an unreadable code.
Only authorized readers can de-code the message with a private computer key.
Goodlatte says cybersecurity is essential in our region.
Goodlatte says the Safe Act is an attempt to protect privacy, promote jobs
and prevent on-line crime.
The Roanoke Valley Resource Authority has approved a budget that raises
landfill tipping fees for local governments, and lowers them for high-volume
With some commercial haulers now carrying waste out of state, revenues have
not matched expectations.
The Resource Authority hopes to reclaim some of that trash by offering
rebates to high volume haulers.

Bedford County school officials hope next week's Spring break will put an
end to an outbreak of dysentery at Stewartsville Elementary School.

In New England, a brother and sister have become the first patients to

Colleen and Tom Boothby inherited Huntington's Disease from their father.

Virginia fruit growers are feeling the sting of a declining honeybee

Keith, they say the problem is really hurting crop production.
Jean, more and more growers are having to RENT honeybees
to make sure their trees get pollinated.
The problem is a mite is killing off the honeybees.
But a program is under way to attract another species called orchard masons.
Some Carroll County school students are helping to provide a habitat for
these BUSIER bees.
