A stand- off tonight in Roanoke provided some tense moments for police, but
the incident ended peacefully.

Republican candidate for governor Jim Gilmore flew to New York last week on
a Philip Morris corporate jet.
There he raked in 50- thousand dollars in campaign donations at a company
fundraiser -- including 20-thousand from Philip Morris itself.

Ray is serving 99 years for King's murder.
Bedford County authorities say surveillance camera video aired on local
television helped them nab a robbery suspect this afternoon.
19-year old Chad Michael Pedro (PEH-drow) is charged with holding up the
Quik-E food store in Forest early Wednesday.
A tape of the robbery was broadcast on local t-v, including WDBJ.
Someone who knew (PEH-drow) Pedro recognized his voice and clothing.
Detectives arrested the teen at his girlfriend's home in Lynchburg.
He reportedly has confessed to the crime.
Pedro is charged with robbery.
A former Radford firefighter who ran a fire truck into a parked police car
may never be tried for driving under the influence of drugs.
Special prosecutor Gino Williams had to dismiss the charge today because a
lab at Medical College of Virginia can't find Tommy Long's blood test results.
Williams expects to reinstate the charge if and when the report turns up.
Long requested the independent analysis.
A STATE lab test revealed what a toxicologist described as an unusually
high level of a prescription medication in Long's blood.
Up to 50 people will lose their jobs as one Wytheville Company reorganizes.
D-S-M Engineering Plastics Products is making the move to stay competitive.
The company used to be called Polymer Corporation- Now it's phasing out
several product lines.
It's also shifting some of its manufacturing between its plants in
Wytheville and Reading, Pennsylvania.
The layoffs will take effect throughout the second half of the year.
D-S-M currently employs about 130 people in Wytheville.
