But it was her brother...66 year old Marshall Applewhite...who
authorities believe led 38 others to commit suicide over the past week in a
mansion near san diego. And after not hearing from him for more than 20
years...now his sister, like many families of the other vicitms...must deal
with the reality of never being able to see him again.

In Lincoln Heights, Ohio, the family of cult member Yvonne McCurdy-Hill stood
quietly on the porch as their minister spoke for them. Their last contact with
the 39-year old woman was in August. Their minister asked for prayers, and the
neighbors wondered how a local girl could end up where she did.
Yvonne was one of the 39 members of Heaven's Gate, ranging in age from 27 to
72, found identically dressed and covered in purple. They all had a neatly
packed bag next to their bed. They apparently thought life on earth was coming
to an end...and a u-f-o would deliver them to heaven. They were followers of
DICK JOSLYN/FORMER CULT MEMBER: THEY WERE ARTICULATE LOVING PEOPLE...AND IT
DISTURBS ME TO SEE THE WAY THE MEDIA IS PORTRAYING THEM.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner will work into the weekend performing
autopsies on the 39 bodies. Family members who have contacted the coroner have
expressed surprise that their loved ones ended up there.

Long before Heaven's Gate cult leader Marshall Applewhite was directing his
followers, he was wandering the campus of a Virginia school.
Richmond's Union Theological Seminary was puzzling today over the news that
it had educated Applewhite for a few months in 1952.

The school concluded Applewhite at some point requested that his name be
removed from the alumni list.
Sheriff's deputies are hauling away O.J. Simpson's Heisman Trophy, golf
clubs and other valuables from his Brentwood estate.
They're acting under a judge's order to seize about 500 of Simpson's
personal items to pay part of a huge civil judgment against him.
The items which include football memorabilia, art work and home decorations
are valued at 500-thousand dollars.
So far deputies have NOT located the Heisman trophy.
Simpson owes 33 million dollars to the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole
Brown Simpson as a result of his civil trial.
A sheriff's spokeswoman says Simpson is watching deputies cart away his
The suspect who robbed a Nationsbank in Danville this afternoon was NOT
wearing a ski mask.
Police say a white male entered the bank on Riverside Drive around two
o'clock armed with what appeared to be a small handgun.
The man is described as 5 foot six or seven, weighing anywhere from 180- to
200- pounds, with a beard and mustache.
He was wearing a black leather jacket and biker style cap.
Police say the man fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

The walk is in remembrance of Christ's procession to his crucifixion.
The Via Dolorosa is a cobblestone path.

The American Automobile Association says drivers across the country are
revving up for higher gas prices this Easter weekend.
The average price for a gallon of gas nationwide is the highest it has been
in 16 years.
In advance of the holiday, self-serve, regular unleaded gas is going for an

The nation's largest health care company-- and one of the largest providers
in our area is the subject of a sweeping federal investigation.
The New York Times reports in a government raid last week agents carted off
truckloads of records from several Columbia- H-C-A facilities in Texas.
The feds are looking into the alleged practice of "upcoding"-- hospitals
receive larger payments from Medicare by inflating the seriousness of the
illnesses they treat.

Earlier this year, the Virginia General Assembly paid tribute to Artie
Levin for his devotion to physical fitness and his commitment to the Roanoke
Today, local lawmakers brought the honor home to his family.
"Mr. Fitness" was a fixture on Roanoke television for more than 25 years.
Even in retirement he was a tireless advocate for healthful living.
Today, Delegates Vic Thomas and Chip Woodrum and Senator John Edwards
presented a memorial resolution to Levin's daughter.
