He never made it. While driving east on Peppers Ferry Road near
Christiansburg, a drunk driver crossed the center line and hit his car head-
on.
The 27 year- old who liked to fish and play basketball died instantly.
23 year- old Timothy Scott Chaffin sustained a few cuts and bruises.
A state trooper said Chaffin couldn't remember how much he'd had to drink
that night, but told the trooper it wasn't enough.
At .19, His blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
On March 15th, less than two months later, Chaffin was AGAIN charged with
D-U-I AND driving on a suspended license, this time in Floyd County.
Burton's sister said Chaffin may as well have thrown her brother's blood in
her face.

In Abingdon, the family and friends of another young man are trying to come
to terms with his death.
Michael Sandoe (SAN-doe) was the youngest of 39 cult members who took their
own lives last week in California.

member of the Key Club.
By all accounts, he was a popular student who was active in the community.
Members of his family have declined comment, but friends say they were

Members of the Franklin County Humane Society received a letter from Green's
son... demanding that the hundred- plus dogs and cats be returned to Green's
property.
The son says HE was the rightful owner, not his mother.
Despite the new claim, the Humane Society is forging ahead with the adoption
process.
And as Scott Prince reports, a vast majority of the animals already have new
homes.

Roanoke police think they've got the person responsible for a series of
recent car thefts and break-ins.
22-year old Michael Furrow is accused of stealing six cars over a period of
ten days earlier this month.
Furrow is also being investigated in connection with a number of break-ins--
police believe he stole 18 thousand dollars of property from parked cars. So
far authorities have recovered four thousand dollars worth of stolen items.
