when he crashed into the car 27 year- old Steve Burton was driving the night of
Chaffin, a 23 year- old father of two sustained cuts and bruises, and

And the fact that Burton, the other driver had a blood alcohol level of .10
has her and Scotty's lawyer wondering if there's more to the story.

But prosecutor Phil Keith says the crash was fully investigated, and the

The daughter of murder victim Bernard Rosser is reportedly convinced her
stepbrother did not kill her father.
Published reports say 32 year old Sherry Rosser of Petersburg believes her
father was struck twice in the head by an intruder in the family's Pittsylvania

Authorities charged Rosser's young stepson with the crime.
The boy is now staying with family out of state.
Sherry Rosser is quoted as saying things she saw when walking through the
Rosser home, and conversations she's had related to the case, convinced her
someone else committed the crime.
A large brush fire did considerable damage to a popular local hiking spot.
Continued, but diminishing winds fanned fears at the U-S Forest Service that
local crews may not be able to keep it from starting again.

A northern Virginia man charged with racketeering here in the Roanoke
Valley will remain in jail for the time being.
Today, a federal judge refused to release Abed Jalil Jamil (AH-bed juh-LEAL
juh-MEAL) on bond.
Jamil is a member of the Abed family, one of several defendants accused of
setting fires to put competitors out of business, silence witnesses or collect
Prosecutors say Jamil used aliases and tried to hide assets from the court,
but today his lawyer said any confusion over his client's name was NOT an
effort to mislead authorities.
Jamil entered a plea of not guilty today, and his attorney said he will
probably appeal the judge's decision denying bond.
Former heavyweight boxing champ Oliver McCall has had another run in with
Over the weekend, he was questioned by authorities about a vandalism
In the past 12 months, McCall has been cited for disorderly conduct and
driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to police, his family has obtained an emergency custody order that
forces him to undergo a mental health evaluation.
As welfare reform continues to take hold across Virginia, former recipients
whose benefits have been cut are putting a strain on local charities.
At Bedford Christian Ministries, the all- volunteer staff provides food,
clothes and emergency financial assistance to those who need it.
They're seeing an increase in the number of former welfare recipients who
are not quite self-sufficient.

You won't get a pay raise from Attorney General Jim Gilmore.
Gilmore's finally issued a legal opinion on how last October's minimum wage
increase affects Virginia's "tipped workers."
Gilmore says they will stay at four-25 an hour, where the federal law froze
them when it upped other workers' wages to four-75 an hour.
And that four-25 can include tips... making the actual paid wage from the
employer much lower.
The opinion's good news for restaurant owners.
Balancing the budget isn't any easy task.
Congress and the President have known it for years, and tonight some Roanoke
College Students got to try their hand at trimming the budget deficit.
The exercise was sponsored by the Concord coalition, which is a grass roots
organization concerned about the growing national debt.

an open casting call for extras for the sequel to the 1987 movie Bull Durham.
In the film Kevin Costner returns to coach the Durham Bulls.

Today; Roanoke College's resource development department announced that
the school has received a 750 thousand dollar gift from the Belk Foundation of
Charlotte, North Carolina. The funds have been designated to build and equip a
new fitness center on the Roanoke College campus.
Former CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite is resting comfortably after
quadruple bypass surgery today.
The 80 year old news legend discovered he had coronary artery problems
during a routine check- up.
The four hour surgery was successful.
Cronkite anchored the CBS Evening News for 19 years.
Since he retired in 1981 he has produced and appeared in documentaries for
CBS, PBS and the Discovery Channel.
