Two hours into the standoff, police fire teargas into the trailer.
Still no sound from 37 year- old Donnie Ray Dalton.
A short time later, they recovered the body of his wife, 36 year-old Audrey Dalton.
Police had escorted her to the trailer to collect some belongings.
They found it quiet and assumed Donnie Ray had done what he was told, to stay away till 6pm.
As Audrey approached, gunshots rang out.

Firefighters are expected to work throughout the night... trying to contain what's left of a string of brush fires from earlier in the day.
More than a dozen blazes from Moneta to Piney Mountain were apparently sparked from a passing Norfolk Southern train.

((From the old Roanoke Valley Landfill... it was easy to see that firefighters had their work cut out for them.
From that location alone 7 brush fires were visible... and more than a half dozen others were burning.
But by nightfall just 2 remained.
This was the worst one-- just off of Harmond Road near Hardy.

And although more than a hundred acres were torched... there was barely any structural damage to speak of.
There were a couple of homes that were threatened by flames... but none were lost.
As for the cause of these fires... forestry officials point the finger of blame at Norfolk Southern.
The trail of fire followed the railroad tracks... leading most to believe that some sort of mechanical malfunction... either the brakes or the smoke stack... sparked the flames.
Apparently, this is the third time in the past week something like this has happened-- just not to this extent.

Authorities now say all six inmates aboard a prison van were killed- when the van burst into flames.

It happened in Dickson, Tennessee- about 35 miles west of Nashville.
A state official says the van went up in flames when the drive shaft or the axle broke and punctured the gas tank.
The state prisoners were shackled to each other, but not to the van.
The driver suffered burns as he tried to save them.

Police say they had to use pepper spray to subdue Edison after he resisted arrest.
They say he also kicked the window out of a police cruiser while sitting in the back seat.

A Bedford County woman is hurt after she was forced off a railroad trestle and into the James River this afternoon.

22-year old Amanda Shackelford and 23-year old Gabriel Forest were walking across the trestle when a Norfolk Southern train approached.
Forest was able to make it to safety but witnesses say Shackelford tripped and fell about eighty feet into the water.
She suffered multiple injuries and has been upgraded tonight to fair condition at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Amherst County authorities are investigating.
