A Bedford County woman is fighting for her life after falling off a train
trestle into the James River this afternoon.

It happened around 3:30 on the railroad bridge between Amherst County and
Lynchburg.
22-year old Amanda Shackelford and 23-year old Gabriel Forest were walking
across the trestle when a southbound Norfolk Southern train approached.
Witnesses say the two tried to outrun the train but Shackelford tripped and
fell about eighty feet into the river.
She's in critical condition at Lynchburg General Hospital.

That after Blacksburg police charged 20 year old Pedro Edison with two
counts of destruction of property and resisting arrest.

Edison allegedly kicked a car window in at University Terrace apartments.
Police say they had to use spray to subdue Edison after he resisted arrest.
They say he also kicked the window out of a police cruiser while sitting in
the back seat.
Edison was already due to serve two months in jail this summer for a fatal
car accident in Staunton last year.

Craven lost control of his Chevrolet and hit the fourth turn wall about
sixty minutes into the session.
Medical personnel at the track said Craven suffered a skull fracture a
possible broken left shoulder and a possible ruptured eardrum. He also
complained of chest pains.
Craven was taken by helicopter to the Parkland Memorial hospital in
Dallas.
