There were 13 children on Montgomery County bus number one when the crash happened this afternoon.

State police say 59 year old Linette Schug of Blacksburg apparently failed to negotiate a curve on Bishop Road. Her Toyota Camry narrowly missed a head-on collision with the school bus.
Schug died at the scene.
The students were on their way home from Blacksburg Middle School and Blacksburg High School.
A 12 year- old girl who was riding in the front seat of the bus was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
All of the other students were released to their parents.

For months, a Roanoke mail carrier was stalking women on his postal route.
Then he took it a step further.
He broke into one woman's home and fondled himself in front of her.

For that, 36- year- old Anthony Tyler Jefferson might spend five years in prison.
He pled guilty to three separate charges in Roanoke Circuit Court this afternoon.
Prosecutors say because he was a letter carrier, he had unique knowledge of these women's lives.

The Space shuttle Columbia blasted into space this afternoon-- with a Hokie on board.
Roger Crouch is a 1968 physics grad from Virginia Tech.
While Columbia orbits the earth, Crouch will work as a payload specialist conducting experiments in space-
On the 16 day mission, the crew will set some 200 small fires to study flames in space.
They'll also be growing crops-- checking the growth of spinach, clover, sage and pine seedlings.

It was apparently a losing bet for those who support the idea of casino gambling at the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia.
After a day-long debate, state legislature leaders are acknowledging there aren't enough votes to pass it.

The Greenbrier wants to build a Monte Carlo style casino to attract more guests and fill rooms during the winter.
Greenbrier President Ted Kleisner (KLY-snur) said the hotel would not object if most of the gambling profits went to state and local governments.
But tomorrow is the deadline for West Virginia lawmakers to act, so it now appears the gambling legislation will fail to win approval this year.

It appears a Hillsville man did not mean to shoot and kill his 16 year old daughter yesterday.

Andrea Dalton died at the hospital yesterday from a gunshot fired by her father.
Police say 37 year- old Donnie Ray Dalton fired one round from a sawed- off shotgun at his wife-- Andrea's mother.
Audrey Dalton was killed instantly.
But the spray from the shot also struck Andrea.
Dalton later fired one more round to take his own life.
When police finally determined it was safe to enter the trailer, they found his body near the door.
Family members said Dalton was upset over divorce proceedings.
Police had escorted Audrey to the trailer so she could collect some belongings.
