A school bus and a car collide in Montgomery County this afternoon, killing
the car driver and injuring a student.

Police say 59 year old Linette Schug of Blacksburg apparently crossed a curve
on the wrong side of Bishop Road,
Her Toyota Camry struck Montgomery County bus number one nearly head-on.
Schug died at the scene.
A 12 year-old girl was treated and released at the hospital for neck pain.
The bus driver and the other 12 students on board were not hurt.
The students were on their way home from Blacksburg Middle and Blacksburg
High schools.

Hillsville police say it appears Donnie Ray Dalton never intended to kill
his 16 year-old daughter yesterday.

When Dalton fired one round from a sawed-off shotgun, his daughter Andrea
was hit by the spray.
Police say her mother, 36 year old Audrey Dalton was the INTENDED victim.
She died instantly.
Police met Audrey and her daughters at the family's mobile home to collect
some belongings.
After finding the doors locked and getting no answer from anyone inside,
police chief Kenny Sharpe walked back within three feet of Audrey to escort her
to the door.
The shooting and standoff, and Donnie Dalton's suicide left him shaken.

Read took over for registrar Linda Arnold.
Read says no one on the Republican- controlled electoral board pressured her
to let the two women go.
But Sales and Miller sued, and after four days of testimony, Judge James C.
Turk tonight refused to let the jury decide the case.
Turk said the two women were only "praying for sympathy", and that there was
no evidence to support their claims.

Oddly enough, these are the same drug-running charges that were lodged

County- -while spending months in Columbia setting up drug traffickers.

Craven crashed yesterday during practice for Sunday's inaugural Winston Cup
race at the Texas Motor Speedway.
He suffered a fractured right shoulder blade and a concussion.
He was moved out intensive care earlier this evening as he continues to make
good progress in the first 48 hours since the wreck.
Todd Bodine is serving as his backup relief driver this weekend.

The Washington Redskins appear to have secured the services of former all-pro
defensive back Chris Dishman.
The Houston oiler free agent told a Houston TV station today he plans to sign
with the Skins. Washington says the two sides are very close to an agreement.

They raised more than 65- thousand dollars to renovate their old schoolhouse
and have begun collecting artifacts and photographs to form a tribal museum, in
hopes of attracting tourists to this remote section of the county.
