An accident involving a school bus and a car in Montgomery County injured
one student this afternoon.
The driver of the car was killed.

A Toyota Camry struck Montgomery County bus number- one ...almost head- on.
State police have not released the name of the driver, who died at the
scene.
A 12 year- old girl was taken to the hospital with a bloody nose and neck
pain.
The other students were able to go home with their parents, and the bus
driver was not hurt.
The 13 students were on their way home from Blacksburg Middle and Blacksburg
High schools.

Hillsville police say it appears the shooting death of a 16 year- old girl
yesterday was accidental.

Andrea Dalton was hit by the spray from one round her father fired from a
sawed- off shotgun.
The INTENDED victim was her mother, 36 year- old Audrey Dalton, who was shot
in the face and died instantly.
Police had met Audrey and her daughters at the family's mobile home to
collect some belongings.
After finding the doors locked and getting no answer from anyone inside,
police chief Kenny Sharpe walked back within three feet of Audrey to escort her
to the door.
The shooting and standoff, and Donnie Dalton's suicide left him shaken.

A NOT guilty plea today from a drug informant who pled GUILTY a year and a
half ago.
These are the same charges that were lodged against Javier Cruz in 1991.
He was in court today for the first time since a closed-door hearing in
1995 allowed Cruz to avoid a public trial and continue working for the U-S Drug
Enforcement Administration.
As a D-E-A informant, Cruz alternately lived in the Clearbrook section of
Roanoke County- -while spending months in his native Columbia setting up drug
traffickers and arranging to launder money for them.
