railroad trestle and into the James River yesterday.

22- year- old Amanda Shackelford and 23- year- old Gabriel Forest were
walking across the trestle when a Norfolk Southern train approached.
Forest was able to make it to safety but witnesses say Shackelford tripped
and fell about eighty feet into the water.
She suffered multiple injuries and is in fair condition this morning at
Lynchburg General Hospital.
Amherst County authorities are investigating.

that some sort of mechanical malfunction... either the brakes or the smoke
stack... sparked the flames.
