Good Evening, this is NEWS-7 Primetime on WEFC.

Six months after they became locked in a hostile bidding war, Norfolk Southern and C-S-X have ironed out the main details for a negotiated breakup of Conrail.
As Len Besthoff reports, one of the largest employers in our area will get a majority of the spoils.

Norfolk Southern will shell out nearly six- BILLION- dollars for a 58- percent share of Conrail's assets, including key routes providing new rail links to lucrative markets like Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and metropolitan New York.
Richmond- based C-S-X will spend upwards of four- billion- dollars for the rest of Conrail.
It gets new connections in Boston, St. Louis, New York, and Philadelphia.
Norfolk Southern and C-S-X will jointly operate Conrail assets in other terminals.
Even with these bitter rivals in agreement, the deal has a long way to go.
The finer details must still be worked out, and federal regulators who want to make sure competition is preserved could take close to a year to approve the Conrail carve- up.

Buchanan killed his family and fled in 1987, when he was just 19 years old.

He shot his stepmother, stabbed her in the chest and nearly decapitated her.
He shot 10 year old stepbrother Donnie twice.
He shot 13- year old stepbrother Joel three times as he tried to flee, then stabbed him five times in the head.
Neighbors and relatives in the tiny Naola community hoped this execution would end their anguish.
But Buchanan's lawyers say it was their client's anguished childhood that needs more attention.

So the U.S. Supreme Court intervened, giving itself more time to decide if it will hear more about Doug Buchanan's state of mind the day of the killings.
Buchanan's lawyers had NOT even asked Governor Allen for clemency.
But the Governor issued a statement anyway, calling the murders deliberate and vicious and stating the execution should proceed.
NOW it is postponed for several weeks.
