Buchanan's lawyers had NOT even asked Governor Allen for clemency.

It appears Norfolk Southern is coming out the winner.
As Len Besthoff reports, one of the largest employers in the area will get a majority of the spoils.

(( Norfolk Southern will shell out nearly six- BILLION- dollars for a 58- percent share of Conrail's assets, including key routes providing new rail links to lucrative markets like Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and metropolitan New York.
Richmond- based C-S-X will spend upwards of four- billion- dollars for the rest of Conrail.
It gets new connections in Boston, St. Louis, New York, and Philadelphia.
Norfolk Southern and C-S-X will jointly operate Conrail assets in other terminals.
Even with these bitter rivals in agreement, the deal has a long way to go.
The finer details must still be worked out, and federal regulators who want to make sure competition is preserved could take close to a year to approve the Conrail carve- up.

A Roanoke County home suffered heavy damage following a fire this evening.

They were able to get the fire under control, but not before the home suffered around 50-thousand dollars worth of damage.
No one was injured in the fire.

The Ninth U-S Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Proposition 209 voted for by the people IS constitutional.
It bans race and gender preferences in state and local governmetn employment, contracting and employement.

The six year old was doing what many kids do- playing hide and seek when he fell through a floor board 50 feet into the well.

Head Coach Roger White and his team made the short trip over to Grandin Road, and then made short work of the Patriots.
In the second inning, the Knights made their first mark on the scoreboard with Tyler Kirby driving in Mark Snodgrass and Michael Duncan. Two to nothing Knights after 2 innings.
Cave made it 4-to-nothing in the third as Greg Wells singles to right field and plates Patrick Conley and David Trumbower. But the Knights were far from finished.
Jay Scott singles, Wells scores and Cave Spring takes a 5-to-nothing lead.
The Knights would go on to win the SUPER=34-Cave Spring/13/Patrick Henry/4;

game 13 to 4.
Scott Shirley, who has already signed to play at George Washington University pitched four innings to get the win, striking out 8.

Mike Tyson has suffered a cut over his eyes, and until that heals there be no rematch.

The Shaq Daddy is just days away from returning to the the NBA hardwood.
Los Angeles Lakers star Shaquille O'Neal who has been sidelined with a knee injury since February 12th is back on the practice floor and running without a brace.
Shaq says he has passes a battery of tests from the Lakers' team physician, and that he is ready to play.
To Prove it he did a little body surfing at the end of practice on the Forum hardwood.
