Allen says he might NOT change the wording of the proclamation if he had to
do it over again.
But he would want to sit down with his critics and discuss the issue.
Yesterday, the N-double-ACP and Southern Christian Leadership Conference
called on Allen to resign saying he was way out of step with black Virginians.
The proclamation recalls the cause of the Confederacy as a source of "pride,
honor, and respect" for millions.
It asks Virginians to "respect the honorable sacrifices" of Confederates "to
the cause of liberty."
It makes NO mention of slavery or the struggle of those who sought to

Helvestine admits he helped another man get some parts for the bomb.
He was allegedly upset about a white woman dating a black man.
The explosion killed a two-year old child who was near the car when the
bomb went off.
The trial is set for late July.
Steven Leftwich will spend four months in jail for assaulting police
officers last year.
Before he was sentenced, Leftwich told the judge if the court wanted to
sentence him for something he didn't do, he had nothing else to say.
During the trial, Leftwich testified police attacked him during a traffic
stop last year.
After the sentencing he said he'll file a lawsuit.

Leftwich's attorney says he hasn't decided whether the discrimination
lawsuit will be filed in federal or civil court.
Former federal prosecutor Richard Cullen will be filling out Jim Gilmore's
term as Virginia's Attorney General.
Gilmore gave an emotional thank you to his staff today and an enthusiastic
welcome to Cullen.
Gilmore will step down to campaign full time for Governor in June.
Today, Governor Allen announced the appointment of Cullen to begin the

San Francisco doctors may breathe a little easier about recommending pot
for their patients.
A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order to protect doctors
from prosecution or licensing action.
The Clinton administration had argued that physicians should not be able to
do anything more than discuss with their patients the risks and benefits of
The restraining order will last until the judge rules on the doctors'
request for a permanent injunction.
Last year California voters approved the use of pot for medical purposes,
but pot is illegal under federal law.
A recent study has exposed the dangers of lead poisoning in the Hill City.
Ten percent of Lynchburg's inner city children have tested positive for lead
poisoning and thousands more are at risk.
How to tackle the problem. That was the topic of a symposium today at
