The westbound lanes of Interstate 64 across Afton Mountain are open once
The Virginia Department of Transportation closed the westbound lanes over
Afton following a rock slide last night.
The road was closed for 16 hours, and during that time, traffic heading for
Waynesboro and Staunton was detoured onto U-S 250 west at Crozet.
The highway department reopened the lanes this morning after a
geologist checked out the conditions.
The rock slide happened about 7:15 last night. No one was injured, and no
cars were damaged.
He's been on the job a year.
Monty Tucker went from Roanoke to Richmond to lead the group that decides
which criminals go free.
And the former federal prosecutor has actually softened a parole board bent

George Allen's tough-as-nails parole board last year after its last chairman
resigned amidst scandal.
Tucker's worked on mending fences.
And consciously or not, he's brought a slight moderation to a board inmates
and their families have loved to hate.

had a parole grant rate of about 43-percent.

The new Allen board in 1995 slammed the door shut ... releasing only about
14- percent of parole eligible inmates.

Tucker says some of that is the board members getting to know the inmates

Davis is best known as the lawyer representing Paula Jones in her
sexual-harassment lawsuit against President Clinton.
He also was the center of attention when former client Ramona Hines of
Pittsylvania County released a videotape showing him chatting with her about
disrobeing for Playboy magazine.
Davis is running against state Senators Kenneth Stolle of
Virginia Beach and Mark Early of Chesapeake, along with former
public safety secretary Jerry Kilgore.
An out- of- state company is gobbling up some of the most popular radio
stations in town.
Len Besthoff says if Capstar gets approval from federal regulators, it will
soon own FIVE major stations in the Roanoke- Lynchburg market.

the lady Hokies new head basketball coach. Sources tell News 7 sports that
Bonnie Henrickson will be introduced as the new coach, but this is not yet

Former Ferrum baseball star Billy wagner notched his first win of the
