Authorities in Altavist believe two young men were struck and killed by a train while trying to dodge another train.

The accident happened just before six on these tracks about a half mile from downtown.
17- year- old Richard Lancaster of Campbell County and 18- year- old Kevin Childress of Pittsylvania County died instantly after being struck by a southbound Norfolk Southern train.
Police say the teens had just crossed the tracks in front of a NORTHbound train and may not have heard the other train coming.
Apparently, many people use the tracks as a shortcut to downtown.
