New businesses are having trouble starting up in Rocky Mount and Franklin
County because the two municipalities are arguing over water and sewer.
And that may be the reason why their new Economic Development Director quit.
Greg Cross... who spent just three- and a half months on the job has
tendered his resignation.
Early yesterday, Cross agreed to speak with News-7 to talk about why he's

It was a no contest plea yesterday from one of the three men charged in the
murder of a Pulaski County man last fall.
Eddie Gibson was convicted of first degree murder in the stabbing of Elmer

Police found Fisher's body on the banks of the New River last September.
They maintain Gibson drove the victim and two other men to that spot and
then killed him.
Gibson had also been facing a robbery charge, but that was dismissed.
He'll be sentenced later.
A Roanoke County Kroger was almost robbed and now two men from Tennessee are
50- year- old Donnie Davis and his 54- year- old brother Leo are charged
with attempted armed robbery.
The store manager said a man came into the Hollins Kroger, demanded money
and said he had a homemade bomb.
The manager told the man to wait while he got some cash, then instead got to
a phone and called police.
The men drove off in a car that matched the one the Davis brothers were
driving that night.
A state trooper in Smyth County spotted it, and stopped them Friday night.
The crest of the swollen Red River continues to roll north this morning,
carrying big problems to communities on both sides of the Canadian border.

Police say it's a front for prostitution, but the owner Shooters-44 denies
He says customers pay to see models wearing lingerie.
Police arrested one man working at the club last week, after he allegedly
arranged a sex for money deal for two undercover detectives.
But Shooters 44 president Charles McNeff says nothing illegal is going on
at his club-- no drugs, no alcohol, and no touching the models.
It started out as an escort business, he says, but he's had to shut down
McNeff says the live lingerie modeling will continue.

Roanoke city residents may be getting a small break in real estate taxes, but
other fees may be on the rise in the next city budget.
