A federal judge in Greensboro ruled the government CAN regulate tobacco as a
drug. Anti smoking advocates are claiming victory.

The Marlboro man's contract at the Hillcat's stadium in Lynchburg expired
Management there says he will NOT be returning.
Norfolk Southern is making some changes at its Roanoke shops, affecting
about 85 workers.
The railroad is reducing the number of coal cars it rebuilds, from 12 to 6
Several of the employees involved will be moving to the locomotive shops; a
handfull will shift to the transportation department.
That leaves about 60 workers, who will probably be shifted to train

The second of three co-defendants in the death of Elmer Eugene Fisher enters
a guilty plea.

In Roanoke, capital murder suspect Miguel Ortiz recovered enough from his
injuries to make his first appearance in court today.
He was arraigned on six charges associated with a double murder April 1st
at Carew Apartments.
He allegedly shot and killed Sharon and Deborah Casey before police subdued
him with gunfire.
Ortiz is being held withOUT bond.

hearing, it said an internal study showed its "dry hopper" system is the best
waste disposal method because of its cleanliness and simplicity.
As far as cost goes, N-S once told a West Virginia newspaper it would have
to spend six- million- dollars to equip its engines with toilets.
That probably doesn't include maintenance costs.
Keep in mind N-S is about to spend six- BILLION- dollars to buy part of

A Blacksburg night club is coming under fire for comments allegedly made by
Former employees say Martha Curry, who owns club 221 formerly known as
impaxx, told workers that the bar was attracting too many black customers.
On one occassion Curry allegedly told an employee to only let in well dressed
