A Roanoke man was found shot to death yesterday morning at a rest stop on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County.
Published reports say the victim, 57 year old Estel Darnell Singleton, appeared to have been robbed.

College student Melissa Audick says she saw the victim in the hours before he was shot and killed.
She says he paced around her car, and stared at her until she moved to another parking spot... and fell asleep.
Virginia Department of Transportation Employees discovered the body and called the Montgomery County Sheriffs department around 9:30am.
They're hoping that someone who was passing through the rest area may be able to provide some useful information to investigators.

State Police stopped a car that was spotted here about the time of the shooting, but that lead apparently did not pan out.
This is the 2nd fatal shooting at a Virginia interstate rest area in the last six months.

Good news for residents of Halifax County -- the Dan River crested this morning near Riverdale at EIGHT feet above flood stage.

That's when flood waters began spilling onto the road.

Authorities say 59- year- old Cora Lee Green and her husband Robert Green were died when their house went up in flames early yesterday morning.
The house had a smoke detector, but it did NOT have a battery.
The Green's sons were also in the house and were able to escape and call 9-1-1 at a nieghbor's home.
But they could not fight the heat and smoke to save their parents.

In Christiansburg, a family of four escaped safely when THEIR home caught fire on Roanoke Street yesterday morning.
Police say Raymond Patterson, a retired Chicago police officer, lived there with Theo Elliott and their two young children.
Fire Chief Jim Epperly says it appears the fire probably started behind the stove.
The Montgomery County Red Cross is accepting donations to help the family.

The affected workers were all previously laid off and REHIRED in January to fill an increased number of orders.

The Plant manager says the fact that international competitors got the contract is especially disappointing- considering the contract to produce propellant is funded through U-S military aid.
