A jury today found the R.J. Reynolds tobacco company NOT liable for the wrongful death of a smoker.
49-year-old Jean Connor died of lung cancer in 1995.
She smoked three packs a day for more than 30 years.
She died days after this video was shot, some of which was shown to the jury.

A Washington and Lee student died after falling out of a window Friday night.
19 year old freshman John "Jack" (BAUW-DEN) Bowden fell out of a second floor window.
A University spokesman says Bowden had been drinking.
He was alone in the room when he fell... some students passing by the dorm found him.
Bowden was taken to Stonewall Jackson Hospital with head injuries.
He was then flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died.
Bowden was from Connecticut.

The company plans to phase out the the plant over six months, and some Riverside employees will be transferred to the company's Schoolfield complex.
But Dan River says there WILL be a net loss of jobs after this closing.
The company says the shutdown is part of its multi-million dollar modernization effort at its Danville facilities.
Approximately 45-hundred employees work for Dan River in Danville.

The Roanoke Women's lacrosse team, that is ranked 5th in the nation, has extended its season at least one more game.
This morning the team received an invitation to play in the NCAA Division III tournament against Johns Hopkins this Saturday.

This Afternoon, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced that maroon head coach Bill Pilat is the 1997 coach of the year.

And finally, the big Blue Ridge soccer match between Blacksburg and William Byrd lived up to its billing tonight as the two teams battled to a 1-all tie in double overtime.

Byrd head coach Jeff Highfill was understandably a little anxious tonight as his fell behind 1-to-nothing.
But his nerves would calm down just a bit when #15 Greg Johnson put the pill

in the left corner net to tie the game at 1-all.
The Indians had a number of chances to end the game in regulation, but Byrd's defense was tough with goalie Roger Wimmer.
