Memorial services were held today for Heritage High School teacher and coach
Dawn LaReau (luh-ROH), killed in a traffic accident last week.
Even as they mourn her death, LaReau's friends and family are remembering
her zest for life.

36- year- old Dawn LaReau died Friday afternoon when the bike she was riding
was struck by a tractor trailer on Boonsboro Road.
LaReau was a student at Heritage High and a member of the school's first
championship girls basketball team in 1977.
She came back here seven years ago to coach basketball and teach math.
Flags at the school are flying at half- staff... the spirits of the faculty
and students are even lower.

A freshman at Washington- and- Lee died after falling out of a dormitory
window. Jack Bowden (bo-den) had apparently been drinking.
A University spokesman says Bowden was alone in the room when he fell out of
a second- story window Friday evening.
Some students passing by the building found the student from Connecticut.
Bowden was taken to Stonewall Jackson Hospital, and then flown to Carilion
Roanoke Memorial, where he died.

Lynchburg delegate Preston Bryant announced today he will seek re- election
to his 23rd District House seat.
Bryant spent 18 months on Lynchburg city council before beating out Democrat
Gil Cobbs for the post in 1995.
Bryant lists juvenile justice reform and higher educational standards as the
biggest accomplishments of his first term.
He'd like to take on health care and transportation issues if he's re-
elected.
So far, Bryant has "no" announced opposition.
