Volcano is another of Holllywood's formulaic disaster movies and it delivers non-stop high energy action and some amazing special effects.

Tommy Lee Jones is the director of Los Angeles' Emergency Management office. It is his responsibility to deal with Earthquakes, mudslides and other disasters that befall the city of angels.
Nothing has prepared him, however, for rivers of molton lava sweeping down Wilshire Boulevard.
Ann Heche is a scientist who feeds him information as he tries to minimize the effects of the disaster.
The movie is very predictable, but digital sound and effective camera work give the audience a sense of being in the middle of it all.
"Volcano" gets a "C+". The special effects ARE the movie and it does deliver them.
Acting, character development, and dialogue are apparently considered unnecessary.
