Police say it was an ATM transaction moments after the murder that led
police to the suspect.
An oxygen tank exploded in Salem tonight- sending it 500 feet away and onto
the roof of a building.
It happened at the highway Machinery and Supply Company in Salem.
No word on what triggered the explosion.
And bystanders to the rescue when a pet store catches fire- They race in to

A former truck driver is charged in the murder of a Roanoke man shot to
death at the Ironto rest area last week.
Police arrested 33 year- old Livingston "Bud" Pritchett of Roanoke today,
eight days after Estel Singleton's murder.
As Tracy Altizer reports, an A-T-M transaction moments after the murder led
police to the alleged killer.

It's been more than a week of pain and frustration for the family of 57-year
old Estel Singleton.
But today's arrest only triggered more unanswered questions especially from
Susan Singleton-- the victim's daughter-in-law.
She spoke to News7 only after we agreed NOT to show her face on camera.

Police are continuing their investigation into the murder.
But, the Singletons say the arrest has helped to bring a sense of closure
to their family.
A fatal collision in Roanoke less than an hour ago.
Roanoke police say the accident happned tonight at about 10:15 at the corner
of Orange Avenue and 13th Street.
The driver of a car, a woman hit the curb, veered into oncoming traffic and
slammed into a tractor trailer.
Police believe she died instantly.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.
So far there's no word on the cause of the accident.
The victim's name has not been released yet.

Sixteen years ago, her body was found in a ditch near Bedford.. but
authorities haven't given up the search for the killer of young Brandy Barlow.

The two and a half-year old Barlow disappeared from her home in October,
Police searched for weeks, but never found her.
Then, in February of 1981, four men walking along State Route 6-77
discovered Brandy's body stuffed in a culvert.
Bedford police Chief Milton Graham says he plans to re-open the
investigation into Barlow's murder within the next few months.
Graham's hoping new forensic technology and investigative techniques can
provide his department with some new leads.
Several local and state agencies have promised to provide extra manpower
once the investigation is underway.
The strike at the Goodyear Tire plant in Danville is officially over.
Members of the United Steelworkers across the country overwhelmingly approved
a new six year contract tonight.
The deal calls for pay raises and enhanced retirement benefits for workers.

The explosion happened at the Highway Machinery and Supply company--a repair
shop for loaders.
The tank was filled with 600 pounds of highly flammable liquid oxygen.
Flames from the blast also burned this car parked next to the tank.
Firefighters don't know what triggered the explosion.
A chemical plant explosion kills three firefighters and injures 16 others

evacuations of nearby homes and a regional hospital.

The plant packages pesticides and herbicides.
Tonight doctors are giving firefighters and residents antidote to ward off
the effects of the poisons.
A pet store went up in flames in New Mexico-
This was the scene as people risked their lives to save the pets.

People carried puppies and dogs to safety-
Children even pitched in hauling glass cases out.
Firefighters told the people to back away- but bystanders kept running into
the store- despite the smoke and flames.

Eventually everyone was ordered back- firefighters feared oxygen cylinders
at a medical supply next door would explode.
All of the cats and dogs were saved- but some of the smaller animals like

Roanoke prosecutors have traded a capital murder charge for a first degree
17-year-old (STEPH-ahn dee-WAYNE Jones) Stephan Dwayne Jones pled no contest
to the killing of another 17-year old.

Jones continues to claim he's innocent... but he apparently felt his alibi

A witness testified he saw Timothy McVeigh in a Ryder Truck-

((Prosecutors are moving through a maze of phone records to show someone placed
calls from the Dreamland Motel--outside of Junction City, Kansas, to
co-defendant Terry Nichols just days before the bombing.
The caller used a phone card, that prosecutors say Nichols and Tim Mcveigh
acquired under a fake name.
They also show, someone used that same card to call a Ryder Truck rental
business in Junction City five days before the bombing.
The defense was able to show that the F.B.I. phone analyst could not say who
used the card, or describe the content of those phone conversations.
The jury also heard from one of tim Mcveigh s friends, Kevin Nicholas, who
said Mcveigh told him that he and Nichols shared a phone card and that Mcveigh
sold some blasting caps to another man in early 1995.
Kevin Nicholas also answered questions about an anti-government letter
Mcveigh sent to Kevin s aunt, saying Mcveigh had militant talents that are in
short supply and that he was prepared to be involved in direct action.

Most Virginians seem to approve of Governor Allen's proclamation of
Confederate History and Heritage month.
The latest News-7/Mason-Dixon survey says 72 percent of those questioned
liked the idea; 22 percent disapproved.
Even a majority of BLACK voters-- 54 percent approved of the proclamation.
The poll shows the Confederate battle flag is a much more divisive issue.
72 percent of white voters see it as a symbol of Southern pride and
heritage; 43 percent of the black voters look at it that way.
17 percent of white voters see the battle flag as a racist symbol; 50
percent of the black voters consider it an emblem of racism and slavery.
