allegations he killed 57- year- old (ESS-tuhl) Estel Singleton at the Ironto
rest area on Interstate 81.
One of those friends is 'Festival in the Park' director Wendi Schultz.
She says Pritchett has volunteered countless hours to Roanoke community
Schultz even keeps a photograph of herself with Pritchett in her office.

Gilmore's proposal to get rid of the personal property tax on vehicles is
raising eyebrows... also questions from local governments that collect and
depend on the levy.
The vehicle tax accounts for almost one THIRD of what Craig County takes in

money the county will lose if the vehicle tax is eliminated.

elimination of parole began as a controversial George Allen campaign promise.
Lake Gaston pipeline opponents have lost another round.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington says the Federal Energy Regulatory
Commission approval of the pipeline IS legal.
North Carolina and Southside opponents of the pipeline said the federal
agency had NOT properly assessed the pipeline's impact on the border lake's
Virginia Beach reports the pipeline is now 94- percent complete.
If NO further appeals halt it...water could be flowing through it next

City firefighters have issued a "wake- up call" by voicing their concerns
over mixing the traditional role of fireman with emergency medical services.
Judge Richard Patisall rejected the firefighters' grievance today, but he
said "there are warning signals that need to be heeded."
Twenty eight of the 35 firemen in Roanoke who are also certified emergency
medical TECHNICIANS filed a grievance.
They said they never agreed to do "doctor duty" when they signed on as

Firefighter Drew says he may look for work elsewhere.
He asked the judge how many kids go out on Halloween dressed as emergency
medical technicians. They all want to be firefighters, he said.
A local kidney transplant program will end this summer.
But hospital officials say patients waiting for transplants will NOT lose
their place in line.
Carilion Roanoke Memorial has performed 73 transplants in the past four
years, but in August the program will be transferred to the University of
The resignation of a surgeon, the number of available organs and the
proximity of other transplant programs all contributed to the decision.
The 20 patients now waiting for organs will be included on U-V-A's list,
with no change in status.
A Campbell County woman could spend up to ten years in prison for killing
her husband last winter.
36- year- old Linda Parsons avoided a trial by pleading guilty this morning
to voluntary manslaughter.
