Meanwhile, the group says it has the support of other neighborhood groups,
and plans to continue its fight to prevent the expansion.
One person was killed in a collision between a car and a truck loaded with
cinderblocks this afternoon.
The driver of this hatchback was exiting Interstate-81 onto Route EIGHT in

More than four years ago, 200 people at the Blue Bird Plant were put out of
work when the bus manufacturer shut down.
Since then, there's been speculation surrounding who might move into the
site once occupied by one of Buena Vista's largest employers.
Today residents got an answer.
Buena Vista, Lexington, and Rockbridge County have signed a deal which will
let (day-CHOMZ) Des Champs Laboratories expand its business into the former
Blue Bird bus plant.

Some call the two- million- dollar Blue Bird sale a historic agreement
because of the cooperation between three local governments.
Each one will get tax revenues from an industrial park going on another part
of the site.
The fate of Lynchburg's controversial trash tag system is on the line
The repeal of the trash tag ordinance is one item on a lengthy city council
Council member Robert Garber has been pushing to get rid of the tags, saying
the city doesn't need the revenue the system generates.
Trash tag supporters say getting rid of them would shorten the life of the
city landfill and discourage recycling.
Garber announced two weeks ago he had the necessary votes to repeal the

Jim Stapleton began working for W-L-V-A radio in 1950, and helped it convert
to television three years later.
For years, he worked as an anchorman, weatherman and host of a number of
live programs, including the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday morning in Lynchburg.
Stapleton died last night after a long battle with prostate cancer.
He was 74.

Residents of southeast Roanoke hope to keep their neighborhood grocery, but
it now appears that a deal to sell the property will force the store to move.
The owners of the 9th Street Galaxy say they haven't received final
notification from the property owners, but a spokesman for Revco confirms that
the drugstore chain has signed a deal to put a new store on the site.

The much anticipated Carolina League baseball series between Lynchburg and
Salem will have to wait another day.
