The Roanoke City Council approved the city's budget last night.
And while there is a decline in the real estate tax, there is an increase in
most everything else from a tax on cell phones to the council members salaries.

The budget includes a monthly hike of 44 cents in the 911 surcharge on your
phone bill-- an added tax burden of $5.28.
There's also a new 10 percent tax on cell phones, up to 3 dollars a month.
It also includes a real estate tax cut of 1 cent.

A passerby on Brambleton Avenue spotted smoke coming from Leisure
Publishing and sounded the alarm.
The fire apparently started in a room where negatives and old magazines
were stored. Flames burned through the roof, but no one was injured.
Production areas of the building were not affected by the flames.
And president Richard Wells said he does NOT believe the fire will cause
major delays for Roanoker Magazine, Blue Ridge Country, or the company's other
publications.

killer.

Crider- floating in the James River in Appomattox County.
An autopsy showed Crider had been shot once in the head.
Authorities don't know if she was killed elsewhere, and her body then dumped
