A ten-year old Danville boy who was shot while answering his front door, is
back at home.
Reggie Hutchins doesn't talk much about the shooting last month, but his
mother says it's important to speak up.
Carolyn Hutchins believes the shooting was retribution for her family's
efforts to rid the neighborhood of drug dealers.

Meantime his parents want to move out of the neighborhood, but they say the
medical bills will have to be paid first.
The publicity over women at Virginia Military Institute has worked wonders
for V-M-I recruiters.
THIRTY high school girls have sent in the 300-dollar deposit necessary to
hold a position in the corps of cadets.
Thirteen of them are Virginians. A dozen states are represented, PLUS two
COUNTRIES: Russia and Taiwan.
Sixty-four female applicants have been accepted.
And it's not too late for some of the rest to send in their money.
Based on past ratios, as many as 37 women may fall into the ranks of the
class of two- thousand- one in August.
V-M-I has reached the minimum number of women the superintendent said
would be needed to make co-education work.
Making it all the way to graduation at V-M-I isn't easy.
But for one cadet, the rigors of four years in Lexington was nothing
compared to his childhood.

Salem is again hosting another NCAA championship this week.
8 Division II softball teams from all over the country are ready to begin
play at the Moyer complex tomorrow.
This afternoon a number of teams checked into Salem for a little practice
time on the Moyer diamonds.
Longwood College and the city of Salem are hosting the event.
The tournament begins tomorrow and runs through next Monday.
This evening the teams were entertained at a championship banquet at the
Salem Civic Center sponsored by your Hometown Station, and emceed tonight by
our own Steve Mason.
