In the New River Valley pay raises are in the works for members of the Montgomery County board of supervisors and Pulaski County school board members.
The Pulaski board voted itself a raise for the first time since 1984, doubling members' pay to 18- hundred dollars a year.
Montgomery supervisors voted to increase THEIR pay to nine thousand dollars a year, a 30- percent jump.
Montgomery's compensation will be the maximum the state allows for a county of its size.

Instead the Roanoke-based auto parts chain is concentrating on expanding.
It's being called a partial victory in Roanoke, because for now the corporate headquarters will remain within the city limits.
In a brief statement, Advance Auto Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Nick Taubman said..."A sale of Advance would not serve its best interests at this time."
The company didn't rule out a sale altogether, but would not elaborate.
Advance has been based in the Star City since the 1930's...currently it has 688 stores in ten states.
