Nothing is left of a Radford home following an early morning fire.
The blaze ignited around 3-30 this morning at a house in the 25-hundred
block of Third Street.
The house was fully engulfed when fire fighters arrived.
Crews from Radford and Fairlawn battled the blaze for hours.
But in the end there was nothing they could do.
No one was home when the blaze started and there were no reported injuries.
The fire is still under investigation, but officials say it does not appear
to be suspicious.
A Verona teenager is dead following a single vehicle accident in Rockbridge
County yesterday afternoon.
State police say 14-year-old Barbara Ellen Lamb was a passenger in a truck
driven by Jason W. McManama.
Police say McManama was speeding around a curve on route 7-10.
He swerved off the right side of the road and hit an embankment.
Lamb was thrown from the truck, and died at the scene.
A murder suspect's past criminal record may eventually be the difference
between life and death.

Earl Bramblett is suspected of killing a Vinton family of four, three years
According to published reports, if convicted, prosecutors in the case plan
to show evidence possibly linking Bramblett to other crimes including sexual
assaults of teenagers and drug offenses.
Defense attorneys are asking that a trial scheduled for next month be
postponed so they can review any new charges or allegations.
A hearing is scheduled for next week.
The graduation of Virginia Military Institute's class of 1997 is marking a
new beginning for graduates and the end of an era for the school.
So far 31 women have reserved a spot in next year's freshman class.

Radford University President Douglas Covington has been in office for almost

Danville residents have a new traffic light, three months after a teenager
was killed at a busy intersection.

16-year old John Paul Bailey died last February while riding with his sister
near route 58.
They apparently pulled in front of an on-coming car and wrecked.
Today, residents were collecting money to pay for a new traffic light
erected near the sight of the crash.
They're hoping to raise a total of 10,000 dollars.

a Pittsylvania County hero is recognized for his efforts to save a young boy.
But first, a look at the weekend stocks.
Pittsylvania County Officials honored one of its citizens for his final act
The Board of Supervisors and the county's Historical Society handed out the
First Pittsylvania County Medal of Valor this afternoon.
In the summer of 1985, Leonard Swanson Hutcherson gave up his own life in an
attempt to save the life of three year old Jonathan Wayne Ayers.
Today, the county presented his family with the award.
Officials say the medal of valor is a symbol of their appreciation of
Hutcherson's courage and giving ways.
Franklin County residents came out today to celebrate the early start to
their new Y-M-C-A.
Children helped with the groundbreaking for the building which should be
complete by next spring.
County businesses and resident were able to raise three and half million
dollars for the building in only two years--way ahead of schedule.

The new building will have an aerobics room, outdoor hiking and jogging
trail and two basketball courts.
Hayes, SEE, Mattern and Mattern designed the building.
And, though construction hasn't started, the design for the building has
already won honors.
A local chapter of the American Institute of Architecture gave it an award

The area has used a temporary Y-M-C-A for the past two years.

Former Wake Forest basketball coach Horace "Bones" McKinney died yesterday
after two weeks of treatment for a stroke he suffered earlier this month.
McKinney led the Demon Deacons to their first A-C-C titles in 1961 and 62
and took the team to its only Final Four appearance in 1962.
